Building Partnerships to Position Baltimore as a National Leader in Climate Innovation

When opportunities align with a community's priorities, they deserve to be pursued.

That's why The Butterfly Effect worked alongside the Baltimore City Department of Planning Office of Sustainability, the Department of Transportation, the Department of General Services, and the Maryland Clean Energy Center to help assemble a collaborative application for the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) City Climate Innovation Challenge. 

The national initiative—developed in partnership with C40 Cities and Climate Mayors—supports municipalities in exploring innovative approaches to expand equitable, affordable, and reliable electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Building Partnerships Around Community Infrastructure

Our role began by responding quickly to the opportunity identified by a partner and helping connect local partners around a shared vision for Baltimore.

The concept submitted by the Baltimore cohort explores how existing city infrastructure could be leveraged to better serve residents through innovative approaches to:

• Neighborhood-based EV charging

• Public electronic device charging

• More resilient public infrastructure

• Expanded transportation access in historically underserved communities

The proposed concept also emphasizes long-term collaboration between government agencies and local innovation partners to help ensure climate investments deliver lasting community value.
